After Alice found Sophia in the park and headpetted her, they both chat about the academy and become friends! Sophia also reveals how much she loves witches who fly in the sky, and is really excited to do it herself.
Chapter 6
How to fly a broom

The study hall goes quiet. Everyone knows what's coming next.
All students get very excited about this, though some are also becoming nervous.
The class chuckles.
Sophia is already very excited about flying with a broom when she heard the news yesterday.
And with that, Seraphina starts explaining the class about broom riding.
It's actually quite easy in theory, since you just need to pour energy into your broom to make it fly. But infusing magic into objects is something they haven't done before. And then you actually have to concentrate on the broom and keep your balance too.
But Sophia is very determined to learn about it.
And before the lesson ends, the teacher surprises with an announcement.
The room goes quiet and everyone focuses on them.
Even though she feels demotivated already, she still decides to go to the training space that's to the side of the academy. There aren't that many people there practicing yet, since most of them, Alice included, went to the cafeteria first. But Sophia couldn't keep waiting and wanted to start flying soon!
Once she's at the space, she notices someone special there already practicing.
She was barely flying about the ground and was still a bit shaky, but she was still very happy with it.
(...and unapproachable to me...)
With that she summons a traditional wooden broom in her hand. She then sits on it, infuses the wood with magic like the teacher explained, and then she floats! But only for a few seconds, then she falls back to the ground.
And so she tries to practice more alone for a while, but she's not able to keep floating.
After 30 minutes, Alice comes back from her meal break, and is surprised that Sophia still isn't flying yet.
But Alice still grabs Sophia's broom and holds it in place for her.
The fox pouts.
Sophia looks a bit sad to the ground.
I'm too used to having to do everything by myself, to not be able to depend on anyone else. And I also didn't want to bother you...
And with Alice's help, she actually manages to stay longer in the air and feel more confident with the broom! And after a while she also manages to actually fly a few meters with it!!
Sophia becomes a bit nervous.
They both happily shake their hands, and start to practice together. It's still a bit tricky for Sophia to fly with someone else, but hopefully they'll be able to work together on the tournament!
